Political Dispute Is Likely To Collapse The Economy – Investment Analyst

Investment analyst, Patrick Abankwa Baah has projected that if the political tension in the country is not quenched immediately, investors are likely to move their investment out of the country.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Abankwa Baah called for an end to these disputes immediately due to the dire effect it can have on the economy.

“If there is so much confusion, people won’t bring their investments into the country to set up businesses to employ Ghanaians.

“They will be dragging their feet and rather send their investments to other neighboring countries which is going to have a negative effect on our country.

“So we should be mindful of these things to ensure peace in the country.”

There have been several protests by supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in some parts of the country after the declaration of the December 7 presidential election result.

These demonstrations follow the refusal of the Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama to concede defeat after he accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of rigging the electoral results to favor the incumbent President.

The leadership of NDC political party has also in support of their candidate come out in total support of the rejection of the results.

In allegiance to the party, grass root supporters of the NDC have thrown themselves on the streets on several occasions to also register their support in the fight against what the NDC term as “subverted will of the people.”

On Thursday after a group of NDC supporters demonstrated near the headquarters of the EC, tempers rouse as the police deemed it unconstitutional for these supporters to be on the street protesting since a prior notice of the protest was not served the Police.

The protest ended in a clash between the security personnel on the ground and the protestors. The police was compelled to use tear gas, hot water and other non-lethal weapons to disperse the massed up protesters.

These protesters in return started pelting stones at the police and other security personnel on site. The police however, managed to arrest 26 of the protesters.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the United State of America to Ghana, Stephanie S. Sullivan met with former President John Dramani Mahama and his 2020 running mate, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman yesterday, Thursday, December 17, 2020. They “discussed the recent elections”.

In a tweet by the US Embassy Ghana, the US Ambassador is said to have urged not only the 2020 Presidential Candidate and Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but also all political parties “to pursue legal channels for any electoral disputes and to preserve the peace in Ghana”.

In a press conference yesterday, the NDC alleged that the Electoral Commission padded votes in favor of incumbent Akufo Addo which positioned him for the win declared by the EC.

The main opposition further disclosed that it had evidence of over-voting in the just ended general elections. Howbeit, it said, it will consider seeking redress in court only if its presidential candidate’s demand for an independent audit is followed through.
