President John Mahama's 120-day assessment.

President John Dramani Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has lambasted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership for prioritizing re-election bids and making empty promises over implementing meaningful economic reforms to revitalize Ghana’s economy.

He argued that the claims made by Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s running mate, that Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments eclipsed those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, reveal the government’s disconnect from the harsh realities faced by the nation.

The NDC flagbearer emphasized that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s comments demonstrate the NPP’s refusal to acknowledge the gravity of the country’s problems.

As such, John Mahama contended that the government’s top priority should be tackling the country’s pressing economic challenges, rather than engaging in rhetoric and political posturing.

He appealed to the NPP government to redirect its efforts from making empty promises to implementing concrete measures that will revitalize the economy and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

“Unfortunately, the people who have caused this economic crisis do not even realize there is a crisis. Because you hear them say they are the best government and even Nkrumah doesn’t compare, it shows they don’t even understand the situation in which Ghana is”.

“Because if they understood the situation, we are still five months to an election there are urgent measures they can take to ameliorate the situation. You don’t go saying vote for me and when I come I will do this or that; you can do it now”.

John Mahama further pointed out that the government failed to rationalize taxes as promised, noting that with five months to go until the election, there is still sufficient time to rationalize taxes.

“All the promises you are making, you have enough time to start implementing them now but you say, no, vote for me first then I will come and do it.” – John Dramani Mahama

He warned that the NPP’s strategy of deceiving Ghanaians, which worked in 2016, will not be successful again this time around.

NPP Vows to Revive Economy

Meanwhile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye underscored the NPP’s commitment to enhancing the economic well-being of Ghanaians, despite the current economic challenges, and assured that the party is dedicated to turning the economy around for the better.

Mr. Aboagye highlighted that the inflation rate has significantly decreased from 54% to 23%, serving as a clear indicator of the country’s economic progress and improvement under the NPP’s leadership.

The spokesperson for the Bawumia campaign expressed optimism that the NPP will emerge victorious, despite Fitch Solutions’ prediction of a win for the NDC

He emphasized that the NPP is vigorously campaigning and diligently working to showcase its dedication to reviving and strengthening Ghana’s economy, translating its promises into tangible actions.

“As we speak, we are in the five northern regions campaigning. Until we get to the polls and ballot in December, we believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that the Ghanaian voter has a reason to vote for us. That is what we are doing”.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s Communications Officer, embraced Fitch’s prediction with optimism but cautioned that the party will not become overconfident or rest on its laurels, instead remaining vigilant and dedicated to their campaign efforts.

He declared that the NDC is resolute in its determination to work tirelessly to secure a resounding victory and rescue Ghana from the corrupt and inept governance of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, which he vehemently criticized.

Gyamfi emphasized the importance of the NDC remaining steadfast and focused in their campaign efforts, stressing that vigilance and dedication are crucial in securing a decisive victory.”

“We will not be excited about any poll however factual or credible that poll may be… We are not going to allow this to get to our head”. – Sammy Gyamfi
